The CNC Setup and Operate course is for experienced tradespeople already engaged in engineering production or manufacturing roles, as well as for fitting/machining apprentices in their advanced stages. 

This course is tailored to machinists seeking to transition from manual to Computerised Numerical Control (CNC) machining and operations, and provides the skills and knowledge required to set up and operate CNC machinery. 

By mastering these skills, individuals can execute pre- programmed machine operations swiftly and with exceptional precision using state-of-the-art CNC equipment. This specialised skill set enhances the capabilities of existing workers, empowering them with proficiency in CNC machinery setting up and operations across diverse industries including but not limited to defence, aerospace, marine, motorsports, manufacturing, oil and gas and mining. 

Upon completion of this course you will have completed a machined vice and will have obtained a set of skills to be transferred back into industry.

 CNC Machining is a method carried out by Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Machinery to perform a broad range of manufacturing tasks in a wide variety of fields.

Outcomes of this CNC skillset include: 

CNC Lathe

  • safety on and around CNC lathess
  • start-up, shut-down and basic maintenance of CNC lathes
  • setting jaws
  • installing and off-setting lathe tools
  • installing and off-setting on Live Tooling
  • setting/ adjusting datums
  • adjusting tool offsets
  • tailstock setting
  • loading of programs
  • basic G and M codes
  • running various machined parts associated with set out project

CNC Mills

  • safety on and around CNC machining centres
  • start-up, shutdown and basic maintenance of CNC machining centres
  • off-setting of tools
  • loading and set up of work holding devices / fixtures
  • setting adjustment of machine datums including 4th axis
  • adjustment of tool offsets
  • basic G and M codes
  • loading of programs
  • operation of the machining centre with set out project
