New SM TAFE campus opens in heart of Armadale town centre

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

5 September 2024

Our new Armadale campus officially opened in August, bringing a modern training hub to the south-eastern suburbs of Perth to deliver training for priority industry areas.

Construction is now complete on the world-class campus, marking a milestone for vocational training in Armadale. The purpose-built campus is located as a stand-alone precinct on Church Avenue, replacing and consolidating the previous SM TAFE sites in Armadale, doubling the training capacity of the prior offerings.

Training delivery from our expert lecturer teams at the Armadale campus will have a strong focus on community services, early childhood education and care, education support, general education and IT, with cutting-edge facilities for students to learn in.

Stand-out features to support this training include a state-of-the-art simulated childcare facility for early learning along with simulated counselling rooms for community services courses. The campus also has specialist training areas for IT, classrooms and computer labs for business and general education, along with learning environments that replicate real-world workplaces.

SM TAFE Managing Director, Darshi Ganeson, said that the new facility will be an asset to the community, bringing a fresh perspective to local learning.

"Our new campus in Armadale changes the landscape of vocational training in the area with a rejuvenated and modern offering in the town centre. This development allows us to double our student places and provide a range of affordable training opportunities to allow students to become part of the workforce.

"SM TAFE offers many fee-free* and low-fee courses from the Armadale campus. Our dedicated lecturer teams look forward to welcoming students to facilities that will provide job-ready skills for what they will encounter in the workplace,” Ms Ganeson said.

The campus has a brand-new Jobs and Skills Centre(opens in a new tab) which provides the community with a walk-in, one-stop shop for free careers, training and employment advice.  A modern student hub is on site along with a faith observance area, creche and outdoor terraces.

Student life is enhanced with a major shopping centre across the road offering eateries and shops within walking distance and easy public transport access.

The campus was designed by Fremantle architectural practice Armstrong Collective and built by local construction company PS Structures.
